Service Description
Session 1 (2 hours): How to operate the machine while creating a simple one- or two-piece project using cotton material. *Goals: Confidently learn to operate the machine. Understand the different parts of the machines and their functions Various sewing techniques (Straight stitching, top stitching, and backstitching) Learning how to read/create measurements Session 2: Option A: 3-4 hours: Introduction to Knits (1-2 projects) Note that various knits behave differently and require time to understand how to manipulate them. Example: Terry Cotton, swimsuit Lycra, rayon, jersey, stretched lace and rib knit *Goals: Creating measurements Making a project using a knitted material like a Ponte Knit or T-shirt Learning how to iron Various techniques for sewing knitted material Various tools and materials like interfacing. Understanding needles Option B: If you would like to skip Knits, Jump to Session 3 Session 3: 2-4 hrs: Round seams (2 projects: collars, circular stitching, sleeves) *Goals: Introduction to rounds Techniques for sewing round projects. Introduction to applique Session 4: 2-6 hrs: Project Construction (1 choice of a project using American Girl doll size—recommended to buy a pattern on Etsy) *Goals Create a project of choice. Time will vary depending on how fast the student finishes the project and the level of detail involved, such as ruffles or buttons. Hand stitching Estimated time: Time varies based on projects and challenges. Number of Projects: 5-6

Cancellation Policy
1. Registration & Payment: Full payment is required to secure your spot in a class.Spaces are limited; registration is first-come, first-served. Sewing Lab reserves the right to cancel or reschedule classes with low enrollment. 2. Cancellations & Refunds : Student cancellations made 7 days or more before the class start date may be eligible for a refund or credit. Cancellations made less than 7 days before the class start date are non-refundable. Missed classes are not refundable. 3. Safety & Liability: Students must follow all safety guidelines provided by instructors. Sewing Lab is not responsible for injuries caused by misuse of equipment or failure to follow safety instructions. Children must have parental/guardian consent to participate. 4. Materials & Supplies: Unless otherwise stated, materials are included in the class fee. Students are responsible for personal belongings; Sewing Lab is not liable for lost or damaged items. 5. Conduct & Respect: We maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment. Disrespectful, disruptive, or unsafe behavior may result in removal from class without refund. Sewing Lab promotes learning and creativity, this is a non-competitive, encouraging space. 6. Photography & Media: Sewing Lab may take photos/videos during classes for promotional purposes. If you do not wish to be photographed, please notify us in writing before your class. 7. Policy Updates: Sewing Lab reserves the right to update these terms at any time. Weather Policy Sewing Lab follows Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) for weather-related closures. If FCPS is closed, cancels after-school activities, or has a delayed opening, Sewing Lab classes will also be canceled or rescheduled. We will notify students by email/text of any changes as soon as possible. Classes canceled due to weather will be rescheduled or credited, no refunds.
